Intakes & Application Deadlines
Sweden has two main intakes for international students:
● Autumn Intake (August/September): Primary intake. The application period runs
from October to mid-January.
● Spring Intake (January): Limited program availability. Applications are usually
open June to August.
Most international Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees are available in the Autumn
semester only
Tuition Fees & Living Costs
● Tuition fees for non-EU/EEA students range from SEK 80,000 to 140,000 per year
(approx. USD $7,500–13,000), depending on the university and program.
● The cost of living in Sweden is estimated at SEK 7,000 to 10,000 per month,
which includes accommodation, food, transportation, and insurance.
Students must show proof of financial support covering at least SEK 10,314/month for
10 months (approx. SEK 103,140/year) for visa purposes.
Language Proficiency Requirements – IELTS / TOEFL
● Most universities require IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5 overall, and no band
below 6.0.
● TOEFL iBT is also accepted, typically with a minimum score of 90–100.
● Some programs may have higher requirements for specific fields
Standardized Tests
- Undergraduate applicants are typically not required to submit SAT/ACT scores.
- Postgraduate (Masters/PhD) applicants are not required to take GRE or GMAT, though these may be recommended for some business or engineering programs.

Application Process & Timeline
1. 12–15 months before intake: Research universities and programs via
www.studyinsweden.se
2. October–January (Autumn Intake): Create an account on
universityadmissions.se and apply online
3. Prepare Required Documents: Academic transcripts, IELTS/TOEFL scores, SOP,
LORs, CV, and passport copy
4. Application Fee: Pay a one-time fee of SEK 900 (non-refundable)
5. Receive Admission Offer: Results are announced around March–April
6. Apply for Residence Permit (Student Visa): Once admitted and fees are paid,
apply online via the Swedish Migration Agency
7. Arrive in Sweden: Students can enter up to 1 month before classes start
Sweden Student Visa – Requirements & Documents
● Visa application fee: SEK 1,500 – 2,000 (approx. USD $140 – $180)
● Service fee (VFS or embassy center): USD $100 – $200, depending on location
● Documentation fee: BDT 10,000 – 30,000
● Proof of funds: SEK 103,140 (approx. USD $9,600) in a personal bank account or
via scholarship documentation
Swedish residence permits are issued for the full duration of study, and students can
work part-time while studying. After graduation, students may apply for a 12-month
residence permit extension to seek employment.
