Tuition Fees & Living Costs
● Public Universities: Tuition-free; students pay a semester contribution fee of €250

● Private Universities: Tuition ranges from €5,000 – €20,000 per year
● Living Expenses: €10,000 – €12,000 per year, covering accommodation,
transport, food, and insurance
A blocked account of €11,208 (as of 2025) is required to show proof of financial means for visa purposes.
Language Proficiency Requirements – IELTS / German
● For English-taught programs:
○ IELTS: 6 – 6.5 overall
○ TOEFL/PTE accepted by most universities
● For German-taught programs:
○ German Language Proficiency: B2 to C1 level (via TestDaF, DSH, or
Goethe-Institut

Standardized Tests

Application Process & Timeline
1. 12–18 Months Before Intake: Research universities and program requirements
(via DAAD.de or uni-assist.de)
2. Take Language Proficiency Tests: IELTS, TOEFL, TestDaF, or Goethe Certificate
3. Prepare Application Materials: SOP, LORs, academic documents, and CV
4. Apply Online:
○ Winter Intake: Apply by March – July
○ Summer Intake: Apply by November – January
5. Receive Admission Letter (Zulassungsbescheid): Usually issued between 4–10
weeks after application
6. Open a Blocked Account & Arrange Insurance
7. Apply for German Student Visa: Must show admission letter, blocked account,
insurance, and accommodation details
